TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
The first production batch of this self-propelled gun in 1962 was delivered by Cadillac in the USA. From 1970 until today the manufacturing and follow up of this vehicle continues with the Bowen-Mc Laughlin-York company. The M109 success comes from its conception that allowed numerous upgrades and evolutions that keep this SP howitzer up to the finest fighting standards.
The design of the M109 incorporates the hull and the turret, which are made of aluminium, of the model T195.The pilot seats in the fore compartment on the left hand-side with the diesel engine is on his right hand-side. The turret and the fighting compartment are located at the rear of the hull. 28 shells are carried for the 155 mm howitzer whilst a M2 12.7 mm machine-gun supplied with 500 cartridges complements the armament of the vehicle.
The M109 is found in North and South-America, in Africa, Asia and Europe. This armoured vehicle contributed to many battles worldwide (Iran-Iraq war, Viet-Nam, Lebanon…).
