TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Amongst the great number of Churchill variants figure this version specially fitted with a 290 mm mortar to deal with barricades, bunkers and other kind of buildings. The Churchill AVRE -Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers- finds its roots after the ordeal of the 1942 Dieppe landing as it has been decided to supply the British Armies with a close-support vehicle yielding a great firepower. Due to its unconventional format the 290 mm ammunition was nicknamed the "flying dustbin". Thus one shot of the mortar of this true "building buster" could wreck a multi-storeyed building or merely obliterate a house.
