Amtrack LVT (A) 4 with turret 75 mm howitzer - Resin kit by Gaso.line
Dubbed "Alligator" this amphibian tank had been designed to supply a great and flexible fire-power for the Pacific theatre of operations. Production started in March 1944. Based on the LVT(2) design this new vehicle incorporated two major modifications: a stretched hull and a M8 type turret with the proper ring. The US Marines Corps and the US Army orders totalled 1,840 units. A crew of six boarded the Alligator which operational weight exceeded 17 tons. A speed of 5 knots could be reached in the water, whilst the road top speed was about 25 mph. 100 rounds (hi-explosive, armour-piercing, phosphorus…) were carried for the low-velocity (350 m/s) 75 mm howitzer. A Colt-Browning 12.7 mm M2 heavy machine-gun supplemented the tank's weaponry. The Alligator first saw combat during the Marianas battle and was used until the end of WWII.
